Cinderella 2004

CHRISTMAS would not be the same without yelling "he's behind you" and "oh no he's not" so I was quite delighted to be asked to review Cinderella.

Actors from Spalding Amateur Dramatic & Operatic Society (SADOS) have once again done the town proud with their pantomime.

Cinderella was a joy to watch and full of laughter for both children and adults.  This was a very professional pantomime and I have to say the best SADOS production I've seen.

We all know the rags to ritches story of Cinderella but the SADOS version was given a South Holland makeover.

The tale is set in Spalding where the Baron of Hardup Hall is being taken for a ride by the Baroness who treats his daughter Cinderella like a slave.

All the actors performed wonderfully, but for me, Adam Patman stole the show as Buttons.  He easily built up a great rapport with the audience and obviously appeared to be having lots of fun on stage.  Adam also had a strong singing voice and was very funny.

Emma Flowers, in the title role of Cinderella, gave an accomplished performenace and delighted the audience with her renditition of Tomorrow.

Playing opposite her was Lisa Charnley as Prince Charming.  She, too, had a fantastic singing voice.  Her rendition of Baby Love was brilliant.

The man-made Ugly Sisters were also a highlight for me - especially their costumes. James French and Paul Coleman, who was playing a dame for the rist time, did a great job and really got the audience going.  This colourful pair, combined with the Evil Baroness (Sharon Saggs), were very funny.

Simon Emery gave a good performance as the broke Baron.

And the story would not be complete without the Fairy Godmother, who was played by Sharon Sutton.  She looked fantastic and did a brilliant job.

Alison Harding also put ina  good performance as Dandini.

All round I have to say this was a great nights entertainment by SADOS.
