Me And My Girl Review - NODA

This popular musical found great favour with the audience. Featuring good old-fashioned humour, a slightly believable story and plenty of familiar songs it provided an entertaining evening out.

The leading characters were well chosen with Daran Bland in excellent form as the cheeky Cockney-born Bill Snibson and Abigail Bourne as his winsome girl friend, Sally. Ben White (Sir John Tremayne) and Beverley Moore as the haughty Lady Maria were nicely matched. Martin Tyrrell was the redoubtable solicitor and Paul Coleman was suitably urbane as the butler. The rest of the named characters, including my colleague, Peter Breach, as the doddery Sir Jasper Tring, were worthy in support along with the members of the chorus. I did, however, feel that the chorus singing lacked volume at times. On the whole the orchestra's accompaniment was good. The choreography was interestingly varied and included a vivacious tap routine. The costumes were attractive with accessories that were mostly in keeping with the era. I liked the set with a robust basic background and insets added where necessary.

Well done, everyone.
